Peacekeepers of the Vast/Emily Martens

Template:TOCrightEmily Martens, codenamed Dorothy, is a human from Kansas, Peacekeepers of the Vast/Earth, working as a trader for Peacekeepers of the Vast/FormCorp at a galactic administrative level. She is considered an asset of Quadrant by the Peacekeepers of the Vast/Peacekeepers subsequent to his contact with her during the Peacekeepers of the Vast/Terhav VI Incident; prior to this, she was considered a liability, given the extensive dating history between the two of them.

Background

Emily grew up in a very happy home in Kansas, old US Territory, on Earth. Her parents were, once married, jointly heirs to a longtime ranching and farming dynasty respectively, and so while Emily's upbringing was surrounded by enough money to make the most corrupt politician blush, she was also consistently working with her family's farm- and ranch-hands, harvesting, winnowing, threshing, moving cattle, and settling business with small farmers on the edges of the habitable zone. Indeed, her schooling in rural public academies allowed her to experience a level of diversity in her upbringing that gave her an incredibly balanced perspective on the world -- making her somewhat of a radical in the eyes of many. Her parents, for their part, were not unlike the Old Earth "hippies" who got rich in their later years, somewhat jealously guarding their status while valuing a certain degree of freedom balanced with responsibility.

During high school, Emily trained to run a Triathalon held in Toledo, Michigan, another part of the old US Territory on Earth; her tenacity and dedication to running long distances through cornfields and cow pastures led to a gold medal in the competition. To this day she remains somewhat of an athletics enthusiast, preferring planets where she can jog without a space suit or hazmat soaking devices.

Early on in her higher education, Emily was approached by a FormCorp recruiter; her abilities and knowledge base, as well as her parentage, had caught their attention and they were interested in supporting her educational efforts in return for a contract of employment after graduation. Emily happily accepted, keen to have a use for her education and to prove her worth beyond her considerable inheritance.

Frontier Operations

After graduation, FormCorp's promised contract was inked, and Emily was sent as a Frontiersman on numerous FormCorp survey missions to a variety of worlds, eventually including Peacekeepers of the Vast/Kepler-62f some 5 years into her duties. Her duties included local negotiations as well as livestock evaluations and wildnerness test expeditions, all relying on her vast knowledge of both interpersonal interactions and biological processes.

On Kepler-62f, Emily met a young ISLES Frontier World Operator named Peacekeepers of the Vast/Max Rezal at the communal mess in Peacekeepers of the Vast/AnDor Mining Corporation Arcology No. 2. For two concurrent years of their respective careers, both were settled on the ice world, and both were all too happy to find a like-minded soul amongst the humdrum life on a new mining colony. Beginning with politics, and branching into engine mechanics, and then stories of galactic exploration, the two quickly became inseparable, and a deep love formed between them.

Two years passed quickly, and Max was reassigned off-world. He promised to ship himself directly to Emily's door any time he could, and spend literally every waking moment of any leave he could scrounge up from the Special Operations Service. Emily was compelled to accept, as Max couldn't turn down orders in the middle of an enlistment, and she sadly couldn't follow him without losing her position in the Frontier Bureau. They sadly parted ways, and Emily continued her work on Kepler-62f while Max was shipped to somewhere in a freezer box.

All was not completely lost, as a month later, Emily received a message from FormCorp HQ: After 7 years in the Frontier Bureau, Emily's contract was renegotiated and she was given a promotion to the position of Galactic Trade Representative with Peacekeepers of the Vast/FormCorp. She's spent her time in this new position honing her skills of negotation and research, and excelling at code-switching from "Rowdy rogue planet miner" to "well-educated baroness of industry" and everything in between. This sudden change of circumstance also had one particularly exciting side effect: for the ensuing four years, she's been able to spend more time with Max due to shorter distances between his deployment and her business endeavors.

Current Status

Following the events of the Peacekeepers of the Vast/Terhav VI Incident where Quadrant was compelled by circumstance to explain much more about his work than he had previously been at liberty to discuss, revealing his newer line of work as a Peacekeeper. Emily was unsurprised by the revelation, and not particularly disgruntled at the deception, as classified operations had been the last four years of their relationship and little difference had been notable over the last few months of Peacekeeper work. At this, she was viewed as an intelligence asset by the Peacekeepers and assigned the codename "Dorothy."

Emily recently came into an additional inheritance, at the passing of a great-aunt in Boca Raton, Florida Aquatic Zone, old US Territory. She is sad at the passing of Great-Aunt Eileen, whose favorite she had always been.
