The Peacekeepers of the Vast/Interstellar League Expeditionary Service, colloquially IsLES or The Service is first and foremost a space warfare service, dedicated to the defense of league worlds and projection of force beyond its borders. In addition, IsLES has other duties, including special law enforcement authority concerning interstellar trade, piracy, and peacekeeping; exploration; and scientific experimentation. IsLES has a typical military command structure split between Officers and Enlisted.
Most ships and units in IsLES are dual-flagged, meaning that they are a ship of a specific voting member polity operating under the flag of the IsLES; this allows ships to streamline crew accommodations vis-a-vis life support, nutrition, and cultural differences. In addition, this allows for the ISL to maintain a nominally small fleet itself while still retaining the ability to project the necessary force to maintain order in the sector. A handful of special operations units and the largest of capital ships are flagged only to IsLES, and boast diverse crew complements. They serve as excellent symbols, but they are also among the best that league worlds have to offer and have proven effective in numerous wargames and border skirmishes.
The IsLES force structure includes capital ships, escort ships, space stations, shuttles, space fighters and bombers, aerospace craft, dropship cavalry, infantry, special operations, intelligence, and military research units. Despite its considerable might, it is an expeditionary force, not an occupation force; all member polities would need to pool their fleets in event of an all-out war.
ISL Military Academy
Typically, IsLES Troops are trained by their respective polities; if they attended a military academy, that too would have been operated by their polity's military organization. There is one exception:
